OK this is a fic I've been working on recently. It the doctor and a character I invented called Autumn. I was sick of writing doctor/rose fics so this is a change. I doubt anyone will read it but oh well! This is the first half, I'll post more if I get some responce.
Rating: PG-13
Summary: The doctor takes his new (ish) companion back to see her mum when she was a teenager. Will things turn out the way she expected, or will she not like this new side of her mother. To top everything off, she ends up creating a Paradox....
Back to the 70's
'So where to now?' The doctor asked grinning, hurtling around the console, flicking buttons.
I collasped into the pilots chair, exhausted from running for our lives. He promised me a day of peace and quiet on a sunny beach on some far flung planet. But of course, we ended up walking into trouble with the local people for trespassing over some of their sarced land. How where we supposed to know, it wasn't cordened off or anything! So, as we were being dragged to prison, The doctor told me to make a run for it, and we ended up knocking a load of the people out as we went.
I shouldn't complain really, I'd much rather be living the life I am now, then go back to my old one; constantly trying to please my parents, even by studying art and design at college.
'Autumn?' He asked. I snapped out of my daydream and realised his face was inches from mine. I could see the freckles scattered across his nose and cheeks and the stubble around his jaw where he hadn't shaved for a couple of days. Saying that, I wondered if Time Lords needed to shave as often as humans.
'What?' I replied eventually.
'Nice of you to join us again!' He grinned, got to his feet and leant against the console. 'I asked you where you wanted to go. Your choice, seeing as your well deserved day off got, well, interrupted a bit'
'Oh, um...' I scratched my head, feeling the sand still in my hair from earlier. The white grains must have looked like dandruff. My mind drifted back to a thought I'd had a while ago about where I'd like to go as I had the whole of time and space at my finger tips. '1979, please'
'Why there? You're a fan of Ian Dury and the Blockheads too are you?' He beamed, looking hopeful.
'Who?'
The doctor looked crestfallen. 'Thats the problem with the youth today, you don't realise how good music used to be! Music that stands the test of time, like Madonna, Elton John, Cliff Richards, Queen, The police, Pink Floyd! Please tell me you've heard of some of them!'
I giggled. 'Of course I have!
'Good! Cos if you hadn't I'd of, I would have chucked you out an airlock for having extremely poor musical history! I couldn't have some one on board who couldnt name a single song by Elton John. It would be a crime!'
'Candle In The Wind' He raised his eyebrows at me. 'My auntie is a big fan of his'
'Indeed, great, classic song. Any reason for 1979 or were you choosing random dates?' He turned to the scanner and pressed a few buttons. The engins started up quietly and slowly.
'1979 is when my mum would have been 17. I've always wanted to see what she was like as a teenager. She might not be as stuck up as she is now'
'You wanna see if she adopted the same awful fashion sense as the rest of the world at that time?'
I winced 'Was it really that bad?'
'Well, not bad as such, just...' He caught my eye and laughed. 'Yeah, all right, it wasn't a pretty sight. The colours and patterns are enough to give you a headache, honestly!'
'You lived through the 70's, so what did you wear?'
'Oh, you know, velvet capes with frilly selves' He said quietly.
I burst out laughing at the image in my head. 'Wow, somehow I can't imagine you wearing that!'
'Well, I was young, well younger, and it was many many lifetimes ago!'
We were thrown to the floor as the TARDIS landed. I groaned, growing tired of the rough landings. The doctor leapt to his feet, holding his hand out for me. I sighed 'Can't you fly this thing more carefully?' I complained, as The doctor pulled me to my feet.
He simply smiled at me. 'You need to go and change before you go out there'
I blinked. 'Change?'
'Yes, Autumn, change you clothes. You can't go out into 1979 wearing that!'
I looked down at my black fitted jacket with a plain top underneath and pencil skirt. I only wore that outfit to impress my parents. 'Why not?'
'Well, one; you'd stick out like a sore thumb where we are going, and two; you'll boil to death in all those clothes'
'Why, are we going to a disco or something?'
The doctor tapped his nose. 'Wait and see! Now go on, I'm sure there'll be something outrageous in the wardobe room!'
'Thats not fair, why should I if you aren't going to?' I said, hands on hips.
'You can be a right little madam sometimes!' I glared at him. 'But a very useful one at that! I usually always wear this, but for you, I'm willing to make an exception'
The doctor linked my arm as we walked off to the wardobe room.....
